UPDATE:
When I just had dinner I had a flashback of a situation similar as today. I once worked in Germany and as my friends know I have two passions: Porsche (or anything really fast on wheels) and beautiful mature women.. (Like the moms of your friends you actually were in love with..) The first passion I can not give into as I simply lack the money to drive one properly. The second one is just a dream which I enjoy like "stiffler's mom" in the movie American Pie. I am very happily married but enjoy the company of experienced gracious women.
So.. On one day in Germany, beautiful weather, we had a clientday of the company I worked for. All accountmanagers where at the main office and one was a rich fellow that worked only for pleasure. I knew he owned a 1 year old Porsche Carrera 4 but I had never seen it. He also knew that it was a great passion of me. So I stand there on our parking lot in the sun and this guy, Franz Jozef walks up to me and says.. my wife wants you to take her for a spin in the Porsche... I was astonished... and speechless. Me, a 24 year old is asked to go drive a Porsche with a Ann Archer/martha Stewart type of very 40-ish, very classy lady in it.. Because he was so rich he only had liability on the car which made it more risky. His insurance was his wife in the car, I guess..
So, I took it for a spin, the roof open, the sound of the best engine in the world (yes a Ferrari V8 is absolutely second best..) echoed against the forest trees and I had lady Di from Germany beside me. At that moment you should actually crash the car as you need to get out at a moment of great excitement...
I had to choose for the Porsche at that moment, could not afford to ask her if we just head of to Monte Carlo with me for the night.. but the experience was burned into my memory for life :-)
We'll, I am older now, still love cars and my wife will get older by itself sso she is guaranteed that my interest will only increase..
But just given the opportunity to go play with very equipment without somebody watching your back was a bit of the same experience. I am not a real materialist but I just love well designed and great performing products..
So, for what is was worth..

Sometimes you have all the luck. The only 1Ds owner I know happens to be a member of the Nautic Club where I also sail. His wife called me to look at a PC Virus kind of problem (Because I work at a large system integrator I am always seen as the PC problem solver.. sometimes I am).
I stayed for coffee and he showed me his 1Ds because he did a photoshoot at home the Friday for the weekend.. To make a long story short, he offered me to take his case with a 1Ds, a 70-200 2.8L and a 28-70L home for the rest of the Sunday to play with... That is a $11.000 suitcase full of toys I could play with .. YAHOO!!!! And I don't mean the outdated searchengine..
When I come out of shock I will be posting on and of the series of RAW I am shooting with this camera.. for now: Shooting season (of 3 hours) is opened!!
You are looking at one happy puppy!
