The ERR 01 Issue.. (continued)

I just read one of the reviews of people on their new Canon 1Ds MkII. The funny thing was that even these camera's can get a lock-up, and not surprisingly it was with a 70-200 2.8 IS..

However, I did come up with one problem during a shoot last week: The whole thing went dead, "err 01" came up on the LCD. As I obviously didn't have my manual with me, I pushed all the buttons, took out the batterie, and finally taking off and clicking the lens back into place (70-200, IS) seemed to do the trick. It happened three times that day, but neve again. It was cold, but I used it again at those kind of temperatures since without it going dead. I guess I should read what the brochure says..."

Yip.....peeh?

Just got my new 70-200 2.8 L IS as a replacement for the former one that gave me aperture 00 and ERR01 errors... I shot some photo's with it on a parking place without a problem, but my former one could also work well for a whole day and give me a hard time some other day. I let a client of me handle it for a second and he managed to get an ERR99 out of it.. Major bummer.. (from the positive side: it is at least a new error :-)

I will use the lens extensively in Paris so we will see where it goes. The batteries are almost down so maybe it might be a concern or maybe it was the batterygrip problem people talk about.. I need to alter my batterygrip with the business card tip...(from the dpreview forum on the BG-E2 to eliminate play inside the grip which can give errors by loose contacts

So we will see. A new body or a new lens are both no insurance for not getting faults..

Here is a ISO 1600 - 1/160 - F/4 sample (the picture is 400% scaled down, the lock is 100% completely not altered, straight out camera) The ISO NOISE is superlow..

Corne has the new lens and tested it on his 1Ds where it worked fine. We'll meet up this week and the new white one can join me right away to Paris.. (and work flawlessly I hope..) Great service Corne!

F*ck the 70-200 IS (at least the one I have)

I just experienced seperately an "aperture 00" and an "Error 01" with my Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS. This is not new, beside the fact that it happened with my new 20D body. I kinda hoped it would be an incompatibility issue between the 10D and my lens but this is not the case. I hope my new 70-200 replacement comes soon cause Mr Canon this sucks big time.

How do you do this? Sit behind you computer, get a powerpoint started, white background, set it to presentation mode. Look into the lens at a 90 degree angle, set the timer, see that it wants to shoot 3 seconds but do 0.7 or 0.3 (depending on the light and the aperture, I just F8 cause that supposed to give you more contrast) and shoot.. (and sit still..) Voila!

A little bit more Kenko play..

The 36mm Kenko screwed onto the 70-200.. A pain is the fact that you need a tripod with horizontal mount to hang over your studiotable.. I can only handheld it because I need to be so close to the object..
That makes focusing harder as it hardly autofocuses..
