What most of you do not know is that I have a passion that is 100x bigger than photography and goes back to my wonder years. I am a car enthuasiast. I even went to the best school in NL and later university in US that teaches all about making, selling and marketing automobiles.. After school I never did work in the auto industry because it draws an unfortunate amount of people that can only think of cars and nothing else. And that is bad for creativity. I followed my heart and became a creative / consulting person and cars is just my private love. I owned already 2 Mercedes G classes even before Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston could pronounce it... (they both are celebrity owners of G-classes). I am also not a brand adept. People that only love one brand and hate another, foolish them. It is like Apple fans, tunnelvisioned love for only one PC... stupid.
Where am I heading? Well this week I switched to a new(er) car. I had an Audi A4 Avant and I love that car, although I do dig other brands too (Mercedes, Volvo, Porsche, BMW, Hummer, Saab, Maserati, Mini and Land Rover) There are always brands that you appreciate but would never buy, it is like a mythical respect that might vanish once you touched it (maybe sex with Stifflers mom is not that good after all.. keep it a fantasy..)
For me that is BMW. BMW was always the brand that I liked but would never buy. I can't really tell why, maybe too much posers and drugdealers? But on the other hand, the new 7 series, the Z3 when it just came out, the Z4 but especially the Z8 and now the 5 series are really beautiful, strong designs. I even met and talked to Adrian van Hooijdonk, the head designer of BMW, who designed the 7 series.
Well, this week I broke with that rule. I came across a "too nice to let go" BMW. I really wanted to get rid of a stickshift car (my audi) and get an automatic as I drive 60.000KM a year. That also means that I am in the car around 20% of the time between I open and close my eyes. For that reason I want comfort. Comfort to make calls, stay fresh, read stuff and move fast and comfortable..
I found that in an excellent deal. I found a crisp 525td Touring Executive from late 2001. This car is a dream. I once spoke to someone who bought a Cayenne and said he did not want the cognac leather interior because he did not want to get the feeling to sit inside a Toffee.
I on the contrary love to be in toffee's, creampie or any other bright car interior. Imagine your house interior to be black walls, black chairs, black floor... how depressing. This BMW has a very nice grain colour leather interior.
And now it comes: Wouldn't you like a car that has:
- full automatic airconditioning
- integrated bmw quality stereo with on steering wheel remote
- integrated car phone over stereo with steering wheel controls with additional cordless integrated dect phone in the armrest (too cool..) Anyone in the car can make a call :-)
- heated seats
- automatic transmission
- electric powered windows
- park distance control
- stability control
- windowblinds integrated in the rear doors
- tripcomputer
- on steering cruise control
- 6 cylinder diesel (3 years in a row best diesel of the world 2001/2/3)
- 215 km/h topspeed :-)
- the best road handling in the industry (in business cars)
mmmmmmmm.... a car lover's dream.
Anyway, next friday I will be a different person, I will be a BMW owner and driver... ok ok start the swearing and bitching.. I can have it, I will just raise the audio or push the pedal and fly away!
Wooha!

I see great improvements.
